Apatisiwin

Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest (KNCLN) is pleased to be introducing the Apatisiwin Program beginning in January of 2026. Apatisiwin will directly serve urban Indigenous individuals and communities, supporting people of Indigenous ancestry within the Kingston region.

Apatisiwin is a Swampy Cree word meaning “employment, training, and jobs” and the vision of the Apatisiwin Program is to ensure Indigenous people gain education, experience, and skills to achieve and maintain meaningful employment and improve their employability.

Susan Peters, our Apatisiwin Program Coordinator, is looking forward to assessing client and community needs and using trauma informed practices and wholistic approaches to address them.

The Apatisiwin Program will work collaboratively with community partners to ensure Indigenous job seekers have access to the supports they need to succeed, and build relationships with local schools, community colleges, universities, training institutes, agencies and businesses.

We will be offering workshops and presentations on education, employment, cultural supports, and any other subjects relevant to advancing community goals, including:

  • Identifying the needs of the client, to assist with secure employment or training opportunities.
  • Defining career goals & encouraging individuals to achieve their potential.
  • Providing resource materials, workshops, & job search techniques.
  • Marketing – Networking
  • Promoting suitable employment opportunities with potential employers.
  • Developing linkages with educational institutions, business & community.

A calendar of events for the month of January will be shared soon.
